Barking Dogs & Other Loud Noises

It never ceases to amaze me that as much noise as my son can make, he simply does not like it when others make noise he simply cannot stand it. Our neighbors have two dogs that always hang out the window and bark at anything and everything. We were outside this past weekend (Easter Sunday) trying to play with his new squirt guns and the dogs kept barking and barking and eventually my son's whole demeener changed and then he wanted to go in. I have to admit the dogs were getting on my nerves to but not really enough to make me go in. Needless to say we had to take breaks playing outside. It's funny how sometimes we can get easily annoyed by barking dogs and other loud noises but for him its a whole different ball game. He can get confused and unfocused on the task at hand. Some may get confused because sometimes you have to ask him to turn the t.v or his games, it's self controlled noise and after a while he'll turn it down himself. For all accounts he is actually a quiet child, except when he wants attention and then he can be a bit noisy/distracting (as his teachers would say). Sometimes crowed places can get on his nerves too, too many people. Not necessarily people make a lot of noise, but simply too many people. He still covers his ears when fire trucks go by. I know a lot of kids do but you figure at some point you outgrew doing that. Fireworks are ok as long as we are not up close and personal and even then he hates the loud bangers, but you can distract him by pointing out the one that make some cool design. Loud noises aren't the only quirks he has about him. The most fun quirk to deal with is that he is a perfectionist!!! Yea! What fun that is to deal with! Everything (except the cleanliness of his room) has to be in order. It's fun to see him draw (not). He use to be so creative when he drawed and was quite the artist, but now we get a few master pieces once and a while. He says to me that he gets it in his head what it should look like and what he sees should be that way and when he can't then he gets upset and the eraser gets over used and by the time its all said and done he's gone through about 12 sheets of paper, 1 eraser and holes in the 2 that were close to being the ones. He gets so fixated on things. In writing class he was so focused and concerned with how neat his writing should be that he failed a social studies quiz because he didn't switch subjects when it was time to and missed the discussion in preparation for the quiz. When the teacher came by to issue the quiz, he was still writing in his journal and he was upset. His journal wasn't what he visioned it be that day. For right now we don't do legos. We have gone through so many lego sets. When he tries to piece them together, they never look like the box. He can also get fixated on food too. Over eating is a problem, I try to avoid it but some days its worse. It's hard to keep certain items in the house because they get consumed in a short period of time. And if you aren't paying attention, a box of icecream bars can be gone in one night. I don't want to see harsh or cruel but my son is over weight. I am slightly over weight and so is his father, but as a child my son's age i simply was not, I was extemely thin. I don't think it would be in his genetic make up to be super thin but to be his weight now- it's simply not healthy. It's the first day spring break and he's bored. He's fustrated because there is nothing to do. And the reason's why he's bored and no one to play with is another blog all together... will post!
